Nutrition

We offer meals at Dot Kids, using minimally processed food, avoiding recipes that are high in added sugar and instead, we embrace fresh, real and wholesome ingredients to offer a menu that is full of nutritious and tasty recipes across morning-tea, lunch and afternoon-tea.

Each season, our menu is changed to suit the weather. We also want to make the most of delicious, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables. So your child tastes a variety of meals, our menu is on a 4-week rotation.

We are also mindful of any food allergies or intolerances your child may have. Please specify these at time of enrolment.

Curious about what your child is eating? Ask us for a copy of today’s menu.

On a specified day, we have a centrewide Lunch Box Day. The children thoroughly enjoy this, and it promotes independence and encourage self-help skills in preparation for school.

Teachers do regular baking with the children, which provides them opportunities to engage and learn a range of food preparations skills and fine motor movements such as pouring, sifting, spooning. It is a great hands on sensory experience for children to develop independence through self-help skills, practice simple maths as they measure and count quantities. The children feel a great sense of pride in preparing their own morning or afternoon tea.

Additional Benefits

Parents love the rich sense of community at Dot Kids, and our curriculum reflects our philosophy for strong relationships. We absolutely love coming together with our tamariki, whānau and community to strengthen our relationships with one another.

At Dot Kids we love to celebrate! Whether it be a national week, cultural celebration, a calendar date or a themed dress up day. Some of the events on our annual calendar include Chinese New Year, Seaweek – Kaupapa Moana, Saint Patrick’s Day, Samoan Language week, Matariki Maori New Year, Tongan Language Week and Diwali.

Excursions

Our children enjoy walks where they can get out and explore locally. We are fortunate the centre is a short walk from …. Other places our kaiako and children love to visit include … and the local Library. We often have our local community join us in Centre for visits and enhance our children’s knowledge about people, places, things and events. The Fire Brigade are a favourite among the children.

Portfolios & Storypark

We use an awesome app called Storypark, which allows whānau to follow their child’s early learning journey and to ensure you don’t miss out on important centre communications.

Photos, videos and audio capture your child’s learning so you never miss a treasured moment again. You and your family can also feel more engaged in your child’s development, and you decide who you would like to invite to experience your childs learning journey with you. A perfect way to share those special moments with loved ones down the line or overseas.

Although we love to use Storypark as an online platform to communicate with parents, we also use paper portfolios for each child.

Children enjoy finding their paper portfolio and reflecting on their past activities at the centre. It is a fantastic way for children to engage in self-recognition and reflect on their personal development, as well as being a treasured keepsake for their 21st Birthday!
